Feliz Dia de los Muertos!!

Hey its Starfier, well yesterday Nov 1st, was "el dia de los muertos" or in English Day of the dead. In the day of the dead, families in Latin America remember and honor their dead loved ounces. Families go to cemeteries, have a picnic with their dead relatives, and all the deseed. People cook the person who died their favorite dish and set it up on their grave for them to enjoy. Along with games, costumes, and songs.
This spooky holiday is Latin Americas version of Halloween. Expect it's much cooler.
Unfortunately, Juan didn't realize he had a potentially fatal marigold allergy until it was too late
According to costume on the day of the dead, the deseed come from heavens above and join the living for one day to celebrate and hang out. However some say the spirits that come out on this day are not so friendly and cause mischief.

The point of this holiday though is to celebrate the dead and respect them by honoring them. In this unique day people are able to understand death, and have fun.

El dia de Los muertos is a fun holiday to chill, play games, and spend quality time with your dead relatives.

Halloween Night!

The night of halloween everyone is excited and can't wait to get out the door, right? Wrong, this halloween I was excited to stay home and give out candy while my family went out trick-or-treating. My friend stayed with me to give out candy but before all this happened let me tell you what went down in the hours before. I was pretty much a make-up artist for about 2 hours. I got my little sister (age 4)  dressed up in her cheer leading outfit and did her hair, I also got to putt her make-up on, suprisingly it looked good. That gave me the idea that I was going to do everyone elses make-up on as well. So, next up was my other sister (age 12) she was some kind of gothic ballerina thing, so i put her make up on. The next thing was the best! My dad came in my room and told me to make him look like a zombie. This made my night, I got to put make-up on my dad! So I put black on his eyes and made his face look really gross. Then he told me and my friend to go outside and make his shirt look like something that would be on a zombie. So we hung it on the fence and sprayed ketchup on it like blood, and then let it dry, after that we ripped it up (it looked very zombie-ish). After that everyone went trick-or-treating, and I stayed home and gave out candy. It was fun, I saw some old friends, little kids dressed up in funny little costumes, and even had the occasional 25 year old dude come ask me for candy, I gave them some because I thought it was cool that they still wanted to act like a kid (but it was a little weird). So pretty much my night went well, and I had a lot of fun.

"Less than lady like" Costumes

Since when did Halloween turn from a happy time for little kids to get free food and dentists to become filthy rich to some stomping ground for grown women to compete for mates? The new trend for teen and gown women for Halloween is to dress up as sexy "insert profession here". It is just an uncreative show of women being forced in society to live up to other peoples standards. Another new trend that is equally if not more so annoying is women dressing up in lingerie and adding animals ears. So seriously ladies try thinking up something creative this year and not just buy the tightest fitting thing you can find. - Thespian

Pizookie!

PIZOOKIE TIME.  What? You guys don't know what that is? Pizookie is delicious! It is a pan of brownies topped with your choice of vanilla bean, chocolate, vanilla macadamia nut, or peanut butter ice cream. Just the description of it gets you drooling doesn't it? Last night, my sister and I went to a restaurant/sports bar called BJ's. At this restaurant, we had some burgers and normal lemonade. But afterwards my sister pointed out a weird word. The word was "Pizookie." I laughed and told her to order it just for fun. Turns out, it was the most delicious thing i've ever tasted! So much chocolate in such a small platter. It wasn't very expensive, just the right amount, and it was really worth it. If you guys are interested in seeing what else they have to offer, click here! I think that it is truly wonderful and everyone should definitely try it. YUM.

LASA/LBJ Homecoming:)

Hey guys, It's Elephant Earz. I wanted to jump on here real quick and tell you about probably the best dance I've ever went to. It was the LASA/LBJ Homecoming. It took place on Oct.16. At first it started out slow and didn't look like anyone was going to show, but about 20 minutes after it officially started the party got jumping. All the different cliques did there thing. The Techno kids shuffled, while the Hip-Hop kids broke it down. Eventually, the cliques all joined together in the middle and had some sort of dance off. There was awesome music, food, and drinks and it seemed like everyone had a great time. I had to leave early, and i heard that the second half was even more amazing. But the part I got to see was awesome. Well, if you didn't get to go to this dance you should definitely hit up the next one because you missed out on a great time.

Who's Got SPRITI?! (We DO)

Hey you guy's it's starfier.

Well this week Oct 10, 2010- Oct 15, 2010 was Spirit week at LASA/LBJ high school. each student showed their jaguars pride either dressing up retro on retro Monday, tacky on tacky Tuesday, like a cowboy/cowgirl on western Wednesday, showing your spirit on Thursday, and twin day Friday!

Retro Monday was filled with hip, colorful, and goofy outfits from the past. With spandexes, cool hippie copy cats, and people who just walked into their parents closet, and wore the first thing they saw.

Tuesday was tacky day. Miss-match socks, green pants, flip-flops, oversized shirts, and baseball caps! Anything that is usually seen as someone who dressed up in the dark, were intently worn to show jaguar spirit. Colors by the dozen, shoes of all kind, cloths of any size, style, and year.

Western Wednesday, well what else can i say, it was awesome, and a huge successes. Maybe it has to do with the fact that we live in Texas, and probably all own cowboy boots, and hats. Students wore old and new styles of cowboy boots. Colors ranging from black to pink, and blue. Demi skirts, shorts, and jeans everywhere you turned. Finally hats, from different sizes, and colors.

Students and their Mums
Spirit day was on Thursday. Students wear LASA/LBJ shirts, purple, white, and black. Some bought them, some made them, and some made them their own. Choir, Band, Sports, and Club shirts everywhere. Students had mums purple, white, and black, long and short, with flowers, and no flowers, bells, and glitter too. Face painting, and hair dying to show each students spirit. Also a massive and awesome pep rally. The first ladies, and cheerleaders made awesome cheers, and dances that made the jaguar spirit shine. our awesome band was well awesome. They danced cheered and played awesome music.

Friday was Twin day!! Wow talk about seeing doubles. LASA/LBJ twins were everywhere. Personally me and my twin, well she had a twin, and he had a twin, and i was his twin so what does that make us? Quadruplets. Students were wearing matching pants, shoes, t-shirts, and everything. it was so much fun. My friends turned out to be my long lost sister, and brothers I’ve been looking for.

In the end spirit week was a total success, people had fun, and we showed our jaguar spirit!!

Leave or Stay?

LASA kids are complaining about how this school is "lame" or about how they don't want to be here. But what I don't understand is that if you didn't want to be here in the first place, then why did you apply? Aside from being forced by your parents; i'm sure there could have been SOME compromise that didn't involve you doing something against your will!

A lot of students at LASA, mostly freshman, are talking and planning about when they're leaving this school and where they're going to end up. The most popular destination is Austin High. I understand that you wanted to go to LASA in the beginning, but it's only been a couple months. The school hasn't even gotten a chance to prove itself yet.

I think that the students who are contemplating on leaving should at least wait until the end of the year to make their decision and wait to see if things get any better for them. I myself have even considered leaving but I decided to stick it out and enjoy the most of it while i'm here.

Well, you're gonna be here for the rest of the semester so might as well make the best of it instead of ranting about how this school sucks. Because it's not as bad as you make it. Just have fun and stop worrying about when you're leaving or if you should leave. If you really want to leave then you'll know it, and you won't have to think about it.

Grease Lightning? More Like Grease Frightening.

Hey readers, it's Thespian and I want to talk to you today about the upcoming auditions for Grease. If you haven't heard of it their must be something wrong with you but thats okay just go watch it RIGHT NOW. Anyways, the auditions are on Monday and I'm kind of freaking out. This is the first audition I've ever had with my new theater teacher, and her auditions sound rigorous. I'm planning on doing this weird monologue about some fast food joint. The song I'm choosing to sing is one I did back in 7th grade for the musical Guys and Dolls where I played Nicely-Nicely Johnson. It's called sit down you're rocking the boat. This songs is about Johnson pretending to have had a religious experience to get away with gambling in the back of a mission. It's a really nice song. Well, I've got to go peel a potato have a great life and wish me luck.- Thespian.

Song Accused of Endorsing Spousal Abuse?

Hey all, Hungry Hippo here.
I wanted to talk about a completely conflicting song that was protested against when played on the radio. The song is called He Hit Me by The Crystals. The song's lyrics are from the perspective of an abused housewife. Rhythms and music for the song are dreary and depressing, though the lyrics talk about how the woman thinks that her husband shows her that he loves her by using aggressive violence. She worries that if he stops hitting her then it means that he doesn't care enough anymore. The lyrics say "He hit me, and it felt like a kiss." and she views his violence as an act of passion for her; that he's yearning for her. The song was aired on the radio in the 60's and was accused of promoting violence and spousal abuse. Many protest that the song was only speaking from an experience, but the industries claimed that violence would be endorsed and that it would be better to strip the song from radio contents. The song not only shows an experience of something real that happens in everyday life and the radio industry wants to omit it from the people. In my opinion, that is censorship.

A Guy's Perspective on Make-up

Hey all you readers this is Thespian and it's the morning before the opening night of our first play this year. Looking back on all the rehearsals the one thing I can remember the most is the make-up. Boy, was it awful.

Although I was really into theatre back in middle school we never all that good and make-up wasn't all that intense. Now that I have come to LASA the Alley Cat Players have kicked it up a notch. Already being a guy and having a permanent mental handicap when it comes to makeup, they tell as a beast person ,my role, I would have to wear full body make-up and put it on myself!

At first it looked awful, like someone had just thrown mud all over me, but as time went by it started to look more and more beastly. This was good, however after the rehearsals, when it was time to take it off, was a whole other matter. I take an hour long shower every night and I still have make-up all over. It's awful. I've given up all together on trying to get it all off until the show is over. So I can painfully say my first experience with make-up has not been a good one. - Thespian
